Chambers Ford - Motability

Chambers Ford is proud to be accredited to Motability, a national charity that helps disabled people and their families to become mobile. Motability is the leading car scheme for disabled people. We can offer a variety of schemes to enable disabled people to become mobile.

Motability is a national UK charity backed scheme, which helps disabled people and their families to become more mobile. It was set up on the initiative of the Government in 1977, to provide vehicles and powered wheelchairs to disabled people. The first Motability vehicle was supplied in 1978 and since then more than 1.28 million cars and powered wheelchairs have been provided. The Motability Scheme now has more than 390,000 customers driving, or being driven on the road to freedom. Special terms have been arranged with motor manufacturers, banks and insurers so that today a variety of schemes can be offered to enable disabled people to become mobile.

Chambers Ford can give you all the advice you need about eligibility for Motability and the best Ford car to suit your needs. While there are many aspects of the scheme, briefly there are two ways you can be supplied with a vehicle - Contract Hire and Hire Purchase.

Contract Hire

Contract Hire is a form of rental with the car being leased from Motability over a three year period. Generally no financial outlay is necessary, however if a more expensive model is chosen an additional contribution will be required. All servicing charges are paid for by Motability. There is a free mileage allowance of 15,000 miles per annum. Higher mileage is subject to extra charge.

Hire Purchase

This is when Motability finances part of the cost of the car, the difference between the amount and purchase price is paid for by the customer and in this case the car becomes the customers property and there is no mileage limitation. The owner must pay all maintenance charges. This method is more popular for users doing very high mileage.

Chambers Ford specialises in offering a three year contract hire scheme for new vehicles, or a four or five year hire purchase scheme for used vehicles to help disabled people obtain a vehicle. Once you have chosen which vehicle you require you then agree to pay over all or part of your mobility allowance (DLA or WPMS), depending on your choice of vehicle, for the duration of the contract hire or hire purchase agreement.
